Mask Buddies

Katherine (2002)
My name is Katherine, I am about to turn 34, I used to live in NY (Westchester mostly). I was poisoned by carpet and pesticides, including WNV spraying, plus a long-term natural gas leak. I fled the pollution and spraying to Western Mass. where I have lived for 2.5 years.
Barbara (2002)
Full story: PhoenixRising. I was sensitized in my early adult years to chemicals, most likely from large scale residential use of Dursban by landlords, and by recurrent applications of neurotoxic pyrethroid insecticides at my workplace. MRI indicated cortical atrophy while neuropsychological evaluation estimated a 24 point loss in IQ and deficits across the board in linguistic, cognitive and sensori-motor functioning. My career as a speech-language pathologist and school administrator was ended. I'm currently homeless and living in my car due to the fact my new apt in Queens was sprayed three times by the city in the past six weeks [Sept 2002]. The place is so contaminated now and I am so ill, I only shower and cook there and then in the car to go to Nassau County for fresh air and to sleep in a parking lot.
