The Body of Perception intensive includes exercises from Em'oceans and Sensations, and from Portals of Perception developed by Hubert Godard.
These precise exercises create a strong, flexible and perceptive body/psyche that feeds our posture, vitality, and creativity as we meet, orient and respond to an ever-changing world.
The dynamics of how we relate are simultaneously physical and psycho-emotional. We inquire into our core patterns—meeting and healing those that limit us, and enhancing those that bring us openness, connection and depth.
How we exchange with the world and how we relate involves perception. Each perceptual style affects our, posture, movement, and psychological profile; and affects how we relate. Our intent is to open our perception and ‘potential of action’ for participating in all relational aspects of life.
THE BODY OF PERCEPTION INTENSIVE INCLUDES:
• Physical, emotional, and psychological skills that are specific to working with physical structure perception, and relational dynamics.
• Experiential functional anatomy through movement and palpation exercises brings self-discovery, strengthening, and coordination of the whole body.
• Attention to our interoceptive sensations and the ways we uniquely experience and make sense of sensory input.
• Skills to feel, identify, process, and communicate our sensations, needs, and emotions.
We deepen our relationship with gravity and perceptual spatial orientation, which builds a strong sense of safety and security; this gives us physical and emotional backing to take risks and meet creative challenges. We perceptively engage the action capacity—the skeletal structure, ligaments, and the striated muscle system to support, protect, and back the container of our soft visceral organs and our emotional expressivity.
We bring inquiry to our core, which is first the place where we take in impression through perception of our world, and where we non-verbally express our inner state, our needs and our love. We open a capacity for intimacy—to love and be loved, to touch and be touched—by the whole of creation.

Moving Body Trainings: Learning the Basics of All About Attention

Part 2: October 4-8

All About Attention is a way to discover what begins to move in our experience when we become aware of and feel the movement and qualities of our attention. At the silent level, we can call our body an organism. At this organismic silent level, the affect system flows. The affect system moves throughout our entire body and is managed primarily by the central nervous system affecting the movement of our breathing, “shaping and coloring” the movement of our attention, and motivating our thoughts and expressions. Affects ripple out through our bodies into our awareness as feeling and sensation, combining with our life events, becoming our emotions and our "stories." We can attend to our stories and the images of our experiences by slowing down and feeling into the shapes, vibrations, densities, and lightness of our silent level feelings as they organize to let us know when an image exists or when some "movement" in our world is important.
All affects, positive and negative, flow to help us tend to our wellbeing at all times. All About Attention offers an opportunity to bring the affect of Interest to all feelings in order to maximize positive feeling flow, minimize negative feeling flow, and decrease inhibitors to all positive and negative feeling flow. By attending in this way, we discover the silent world of movement and meaning alive in us all the time and we can open up new possibilities for responding to "old stories" with fresh feeling. We begin to feel deep resolve, healing, and supportive potential for new creative movement in our lives.
This training is designed to support you in discovering—through fluid movement, sensing, feeling, listening, and inquiring—how to facilitate deep connections within yourself, how to satisfy deep needs for attention, and how to utilize this process with others in your life.
Part 1 includes:
• An Introduction to the Continuum Movement breath/sound and movement inquiry as support for increasing silent level awareness and feeling flow in one’s body as inner resource and support.
• The significance of creating a descriptive vocabulary and positive value system for sensation awareness.
• An introduction to theories and neuroscience perspectives on the Affective System as the “biology of emotion.”
• Exploring the language of affect developed by Silvan S. Tomkins as a playground for understanding feeling and deeper need.
• Witnessing and/or experiencing one-to-one sessions with Mary.
• Exploring how to create an environment of safety for oneself and for others.
• Developing language to inquire into feeling, need, and support as body movement, in order to facilitate more intimate listening and attending.
• Practice exploring with partners the All About Attention inquiry process.
Part 2 includes:
• More in-depth Continuum Movement breath/sound and movement inquiry as support for increasing silent level awareness and feeling flow in one’s body as inner resource and support.
• Exploring the significance of breathing as a physical resource for attending affect and emotion.
• How meaning making “moves” from the silent (non-words) level to the symbolic level.
• Exploring Tomkins’ concept of Shame-Humiliation as a biological affect, and its significance in relationships of all kinds.
• Exploring the significance of dream imagery with the All About Attention inquiry.
• Witnessing and/or experiencing one-to-one sessions with Mary.
• Expanding ways in which we can create an environment of safety in order to explore basic questions of feeling, need, and support in order to facilitate more intimate listening and attending.
• More practice exploring with partners the All About Attention inquiry process.
In both Parts 1 & 2 we will engage in dialogue about your process as participants to bring more articulate awareness to how this work applies to your daily life, personal relationships, profession, and community work.
