with Mary Abrams
To thrive as humans we require skin contact with our world. We know the support and healing gifts of touch first with our mother and early caregivers, then as we grow with playmates and/or siblings, and eventually as adults with trusted loved ones or bodywork professionals. Deep calmness and satisfaction can awaken in one’s nervous system when they experience considerate, listening, and playful touch. Being seen with interested, compassionate and accepting eyes is also required for human life to thrive. When one experiences the genuine acceptance of another’s interested attention and trusted touch, the joy of self-recognition can flow freely.
This class series explores ways to experience integrity and intimacy with moving body to body contact by developing “body listening” skills through breath/sound and the fluid resonance of Continuum Movement. We will also explore spontaneous movement expression individually and in small groups and awaken our capacity to witness each other in genuine moments of moving, feeling, expressing, and being. Each session will include verbal exchange using compassionate self-reflective awareness, to expand our possibilities for discovering new meaning and for building community through touching, being touched, seeing, being seen, as we meet on the surface with our “skin and eyes” and feel into the depths of our unique expressions and common needs.
