Friends

Friends in Harmony is a collection of friends, or friends to be, who gather together once a month to connect in song and sharing! We are not a performing group, but rather a monthly, musical "Open House" for folks who want to sing from their hearts without needing a strong musical background or having to commit to attendance.

Phyllis Pulver, the Director of Friends in Harmony, started the group in her home, back in February of 2000. She wanted to provide an opportunity and space for people to learn many new, inspirational songs while creating an environment of deep connection with others. Phyllis, building on the tradition of Ysaye Barnwell's "Building a Vocal Community" workshop, teaches the music in the oral tradition (which means without the "hindrance" of sheet music).

Phyllis does this by teaching each voice range a simple part; and then she weaves us all together into wondrous harmonies that feed the soul. The group learns songs in two-, three-, four- or more- part harmony. With her warm, gentle guidance ~ along with good humor and fun Phyllis guides all of us in creating beautiful, heart warming, and joyous music.
